LUCC Meeting MinutesJanuary 7, 2010 Tammy started off the meeting by saying her goal for this year is to find at least one more member to join the LUCC. We need one new member this year to receive our funds from the OUNC. December Meeting Minutes· The amount reported in the December minutes for the Contractor Breakfast gift cards was $300. This should be $800 & has been updated on the minutes. Treasures Report – Jody Ogle· Checking – We had a few membership dues deposited & we issued a check to KEZI for advertising. Currently balance $343.97.· Saving – November interest was the only activity. Currently balance $4510.72· Jody will be depositing $2400 in membership dues & will be paying the invoice for the Contractors Breakfast. Publicity & Education – Brian Siria & Ted Jordan· Brian is working at the State level with Anita & Melanie on advertising. The State is going to advertise heavily in April & May on KVAL. They recommend we consider spending some of our advertising money on radio ads. Melanie (OUNC Marketing agent) said she is willing to negotiate with the radio stations for us if she knows how much were willing to spend. Tammy will set up a meeting with the officers to discuss this. An email will be sent to the whole group by the end of January for approval on the proposed radio advertising budget.· Other advertising ideas were billboards or on the LTD buses.· Home Show is in March & we need volunteers. The sign-up sheet was passed around during the meeting.· Tammy brought in fliers for the Contractors Breakfast is next month. Please pass them out & hang them up for contractors to see. She will also email out the flier in case anyone needs to print out more. We still need more raffle prizes. It was asked that each company please donate something. We will be giving away 50 orange & 50 yellow Dig safe t-shirts. Damage Report – Eugene Blair· Eugene was not present at the meeting so no update at this time. Tammy mentioned that it is important to report this information. You can email this information to Eugene. His email address can be found on our website. Web Page – Joe Chavez· Joe was no present at the meeting so no update at this time. Old Business· No old business to discuss New Business· Ted Jordan mentioned he is looking into some training opportunities. He has contacted the OUNC & Staking University for ideas. He is hoping to arrange for training to take place in Eugene/Springfield area maybe in the fall. This would be open to anyone who wants to attend. Program – Open discussion· Wildish had a complaint regarding Stake Center Locating. He stated that Stake Center is not on time for their locate appointments & does not locate accurately. This is costing them & other contractors money. Wildish will be filing an RFAA (Request for Administrative Action) against them. o Comcast & Qwest are also having problems. Since they have contracts with Stake Center they will have the “higher ups” contact Stake Center to discuss the issues.o Tammy recommends that anyone who is using Stake Center document, in detail, the problems they are having.o Tammy mentioned she has received a few calls regarding this also. She would like to try & have Stake Center come to our March meeting to discuss these issues.· A few employees of SUB mentioned that they are not always receiving the emails that are being sent out regarding LUCC meeting & such. Tammy collected the business cards & will pass their information on to Dawna Nickolauson so she can update the email list.· Future Meeting Ideas: o OSHAo Trench Shoring (United Rentals of Salem) DP Nicholi – Shay Nanao Lane County Engineer Departmento City of Springfield Engineero City of Eugene ( Tom Larson)o EWEB (Roosevelt Project) – Maybe in Octobero LTD progresso City of Eugene – Discuss Crest Dr.o ODT – Gateway Beltline interchange· Some thought it would be helpful if each company could provide a Project List. This would help everyone keep up to date on what’s going on. City of Eugene hopes to have their project list up to date for next month’s meeting.· LTD asked about training for locators. What kind of training do they receive. Some thought it would be a good idea to have a meeting of locators & contractors so they could get to know each other. Maybe have Staking University come & speak. The idea of companies working together to train their own locators might be helpful. This could help with communication & they would have better results since there would be more invested. To sum up the discussion – Create a training program that anyone could attend to learn to do locates.
